After breakfast, we drive to Marangu Gate, where we complete the park registration and meet our mountain crew. The trek begins along a forest trail surrounded by tall trees, ferns and thick vegetation. Keep an eye out for blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys. We walk at a comfortable pace, stopping for lunch and short breaks along the way. By afternoon, we reach Mandara Hut, where we can relax and enjoy our first evening on the mountain.

Day 2 Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
After breakfast, we leave the forest and continue into open moorland. The trees become smaller, and unusual plants such as giant lobelias and groundsels appear along the trail. As we climb, the views open up towards Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. This is a longer walking day, so we take regular breaks and drink plenty of water. We arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon, where you can rest and enjoy the mountain views.
Altitude: 2,700 m → 3,720 m
Distance: Approximately 12 km
Trekking duration: 5–7 hours
Environment: Heathland and moorland
Climate: Cooler and drier, with changing winds

Day 3 Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
Today gives your body extra time to adjust to the altitude before we climb higher. After breakfast, we take a gentle acclimatization walk towards Zebra Rocks or the surrounding highlands, depending on conditions and your guide's advice. The striped rock formations make a lovely place for photographs. We then return to Horombo Hut for lunch and a relaxed afternoon. Take it easy, keep drinking water and let your body recover.
Altitude: 3,720 m → approximately 4,000–4,200 m → 3,720 m
Distance: Approximately 5 km
Trekking duration: 3–4 hours
Environment: Open moorland and rocky highlands
Climate: Cold in the morning, with strong sunshine during the day

Day 4 Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
We leave Horombo after breakfast and cross the wide, open area known as the Saddle, between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape is rocky and dry, with very little vegetation. As we gain altitude, walking becomes more demanding, so we maintain a slow, steady pace. We reach Kibo Hut in the afternoon, have an early dinner and prepare our summit equipment. Your guide will explain the night's climb before you rest for a few hours.
Altitude: 3,720 m → approximately 4,700 m
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Trekking duration: 5–7 hours
Environment: Alpine desert
Climate: Cold, dry and windy, with very little shade

Day 5 Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Horombo Hut Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
This is the biggest day of the climb. We wake around midnight, have a light snack and begin walking by headlamp. The trail is steep and rocky as we climb towards Gilman's Point on the crater rim. From there, we continue to Uhuru Peak, at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photographs, we begin the long descent. We pass Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing to Horombo Hut, where dinner and a well-earned night's sleep await.
Altitude: 4,700 m → 5,895 m → 3,720 m
Distance: Approximately 21–22 km
Trekking duration: 11–15 hours

After breakfast, we begin our final descent through the moorland and back into the lush rainforest. The familiar green surroundings and warmer air feel welcome after the cold summit. We take breaks along the way and continue down to Marangu Gate, where we complete the park formalities and receive your summit certificate. Our driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, where you can enjoy a hot shower and celebrate your achievement.
