Day By Day
6 Day Itinerary
Day 1 Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
After breakfast, we drive to Umbwe Gate, complete the park registration and meet the mountain crew. The trek begins through a dense rainforest, with a narrow trail that climbs steadily along the ridge. The first day is quite steep, so we take it slowly and give you plenty of time to find a comfortable rhythm. The forest is quiet and beautiful, and you may hear birds and see monkeys along the way. We reach Umbwe Camp in the afternoon and settle in for the night.
Altitude: 1,600 m → 2,850 m
Distance: Approximately 11 km
Trekking Duration: 5–7 hours
Environment: Montane rainforest
Climate: Warm and humid at the gate, becoming cooler and wetter as you climb

Day 2 Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
Today the trail remains steep as we continue climbing along the Umbwe Ridge. Gradually, the thick forest disappears and the landscape opens into the high-altitude moorland. We pass through rocky terrain with impressive views of Kilimanjaro's southern slopes. As we approach Barranco, the famous Barranco Wall comes into view. We arrive at camp with time to rest and enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery.
Altitude: 2,850 m → 3,960 m
Distance: Approximately 6 km
Trekking Duration: 4–6 hours
Environment: Rainforest → heath and moorland → alpine landscape
Climate: Cooler, with possible mist and strong mountain winds
Day Activity 1 activity
Day 3 Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
We start the morning by climbing the Barranco Wall. It looks impressive from below, but our experienced guides will take you through the sections carefully and at a comfortable pace. Once above the wall, we continue across the rocky alpine landscape towards Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day, giving your body some valuable time to adjust to the altitude. In the afternoon, you can relax while enjoying the views of Kibo and the surrounding mountain ridges.
Altitude: 3,960 m → 4,035 m
Distance: Approximately 5 km
Trekking Duration: 4–5 hours
Environment: Alpine desert
Climate: Cold and dry, with strong winds possible
Day Activity 1 activity
Day 4 Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
After breakfast, we leave Karanga and make our way towards Barafu Camp, the main base for the summit attempt. The trail is rocky and the vegetation becomes very sparse as we climb higher. Although the distance is short, the altitude makes the walk feel harder, so we maintain a slow and steady pace. We reach Barafu Camp in the afternoon, have lunch and rest. Your guide will give you a summit briefing, and the team will prepare everything for the early morning climb.
Altitude: 4,035 m → 4,640 m
Distance: Approximately 4 km
Trekking Duration: 4–5 hours
Environment: Alpine desert
Climate: Cold, dry and exposed
Day Activity 1 activity
Day 5 Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
This is the most demanding day of the trek. We wake around midnight, have a light breakfast and begin climbing in the darkness. The trail is steep and rocky as we make our way towards Stella Point on the crater rim. From there, we continue towards Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 metres.
After spending a short time at the summit taking photographs and celebrating your achievement, we begin the long descent. We return towards Barafu for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp. The descent is tiring, but the lower altitude makes breathing easier. A warm dinner and a good night's sleep await you at camp.
Altitude: 4,640 m → 5,895 m → 3,080 m
Distance: Approximately 15–16 km
Trekking Duration: 12–15 hours
Environment: Alpine desert → Arctic summit zone → upper rainforest
Climate: Extremely cold around the summit, with possible strong winds; warmer as you descend
Day Activity 1 activity
Day 6 Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate Main Destination: Moshi
After breakfast, we begin our final descent through the beautiful rainforest. After several days above the clouds, returning to the green forest feels refreshing. We continue towards Mweka Gate, where we complete the park formalities and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate. Our driver will meet you at the gate and transfer you back to Arusha or Moshi for a well-earned rest.
Overnight: Hotel in Moshi.
Altitude: 3,080 m → approximately 1,640 m
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Trekking Duration: 3–4 hours
Environment: Montane rainforest
Climate: Cool and humid in the morning, becoming warmer as you descend
