Gishwati-Mukura National Park is one of Rwanda’s newest and smallest national parks, officially gazetted in 2015. It is located in the western part of the country, between Lake Kivu and Volcanoes National Park. The park consists of two separate forests, Gishwati and Mukura, covering approximately 34 square kilometers (13 square miles) of protected land. It was established to restore biodiversity, protect endangered species, and promote eco-tourism.
