Liparamba Game Reserve was gazetted in 2000 and covers about 570 km² across the Mbinga, Nyasa and Songea rural districts of Ruvuma Region. It was managed by Mbinga District Council and handed to the Director of Wildlife in 2006. The headquarters is in Mbinga town, 80 km from the reserve.
Liparamba is the Matengo word for klipspringer. The land alternates between flat areas, hills and valleys, with miombo woodland and the Ruvuma River floodplain towards the Mozambique border.
