Lukwati and Piti are two reserves under one administration in Songwe District, south-west Tanzania. Lukwati (about 3,147 km²) was gazetted in 1997 and named after a village removed during the 1974 villagisation programme. Piti (about 2,973 km²) was gazetted in 2013 and takes its name from the Piti River on its north-east side.
From the north-eastern shore of Lake Rukwa the land climbs eastwards over the escarpment into broad miombo woodland. Marshes, rivers, springs, open plains, rocky outcrops and thickets make a varied habitat.
