Your trek begins at Machame Gate, where you complete registration and meet your mountain team. The trail starts in the lush rainforest, climbing steadily through moss-covered trees and rich vegetation. You may spot colobus monkeys and various bird species. After several hours of hiking, you arrive at Machame Camp (3,000m), your first overnight stop on the mountain.
After breakfast, you climb out of the rainforest and enter the moorland zone. The views open up as you walk over volcanic rock formations and heather-covered slopes. The trail is steep but rewarding. By afternoon, you reach Shira Camp (3,840m), located on a plateau with wide views of the Shira Cathedral and the western side of Kibo Peak.
Today is an important acclimatization day. The trail takes you up to Lava Tower (4,630m), where you stop for lunch and allow your body to adjust to the altitude. Afterward, you descend into the Barranco Valley, enjoying stunning views of the Great Barranco Wall. You arrive at Barranco Camp (3,960m), one of the most beautiful camps on the mountain, surrounded by giant Senecio plants.
The day starts with the exciting climb up the Barranco Wall—a challenging but non-technical scramble offering incredible views from the top. You continue along a series of ridges and valleys until reaching Karanga Camp (4,035m). This short day is essential for acclimatization and gives you a chance to rest before the summit push.
After breakfast, you begin the ascent toward Barafu Camp (4,673m). The terrain becomes more rocky and barren as you enter the high-alpine desert. Upon arrival, you relax, have an early dinner, and prepare your gear for the midnight summit attempt. Barafu Camp offers stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and the summit ridge.
Summit day begins around midnight. Led by your guides, you climb steadily toward Stella Point (5,756m). As the sun rises, you continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photos, you descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest and meal, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for your final night on the mountain.
Your last day is a gentle descent through the rainforest, where humidity and fresh air return. At Mweka Gate, you sign out and receive your summit certificate. Your driver meets you for the transfer back to your hotel, where you can enjoy a warm shower and celebrate your Kilimanjaro achievement.
