9-Day Simien Mountain and Bale Mountain Safari Tour

Fly from Addis Ababa to Bale, followed by a 350 km drive to Bale Town, which sits at an altitude of approximately 2,100 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy lunch before departing for an afternoon excursion to Dinsho, the headquarters of Bale Mountains National Park. During your visit, look for Bale monkeys, olive baboons, giant mole rats, warthogs, mountain nyalas, and a variety of endemic Ethiopian birds, including the Abyssinian catbird, Rouget's rail, Wattled ibis, Black-winged lovebird, and Abyssinian woodpecker. After an early breakfast, drive approximately 120 km to the spectacular Sanetti Plateau and Tulu Dimtu, the highest point in the park at 4,335 meters above sea level. After an early breakfast, drive approximately 90 km to the lush Harenna Forest, one of Ethiopia’s largest and most pristine montane forests. Enjoy a two-hour guided trek through the forest while searching for wildlife such as Bale Monkey, Giant Mole-Rat, and Bohor Reedbuck in their natural habitat. After lunch, continue trekking toward the Harenna Mountains in search of Spotted Hyena, African Golden Wolf, and Rock Hyrax, while enjoying the beautiful forest environment. Early in the morning, enjoy breakfast, check out of your hotel in Addis Ababa, and take your flight to Gondar, located approximately 658 kilometers from Addis Ababa by road. Upon arrival at Gondar Airport, your guide will welcome you and drive you to Sankaber in the Simien Mountains, reaching an altitude of around 3,500 meters. After arrival, enjoy lunch prepared by your private chef, then begin a two-hour trek to explore different groups of endemic Gelada Baboons in their natural habitat. At around 5:30 PM, drive back to the campsite, where you will have a wonderful opportunity to photograph the Gelada Baboons as they return to their shelters among caves, cliffs, and trees; overnight camping.

Early in the morning, enjoy breakfast and have the opportunity to observe the Gelada Baboons as they emerge from their shelters among the caves, trees, and mountains. Afterward, drive to Gich to search for the endemic Walia Ibex, followed by lunch before continuing a one-hour trek through the spectacular Simien landscape to observe these rare mountain animals. Continue trekking to the impressive Jinbar Waterfall, which drops dramatically through the mountain landscape, while keeping an eye out for the many bird species found in the area, including the Thick-billed Raven, Augur Buzzard, Lammergeier, and White-collared Pigeon. At around 6:00 PM, drive back to the campsite for dinner, relaxation, and overnight camping.

Early in the morning, have breakfast and drive from Gich to Chenek, enjoying the dramatic mountain scenery and watching for rare wildlife such as the Ethiopian Wolf, also known as the Red Fox. From Chenek, begin a challenging two-hour hike toward Ras Dashen, the highest mountain in Ethiopia and one of the highest peaks in Africa, reaching approximately 4,550 meters (14,930 feet) above sea level. During the hike, enjoy spectacular panoramic views and look for colorful highland birds, including the Thick-billed Raven, Lammergeier, Augur Buzzard, White-collared Pigeon, and Wattled Ibis. At around 5:30 PM, return to the campsite for dinner, relaxation, and overnight camping.

Enjoy an early breakfast at the campsite before beginning your adventure from Chenek toward Mount Buahit and the Peak Edge area. Trek for approximately two hours while searching for Rock Hyrax and Caracal, enjoying the spectacular mountain scenery and surrounding wildlife. After lunch, continue the trek in search of Leopard, Common Duiker and Klipspringer, with opportunities to observe the unique landscapes and wildlife of the Simien Mountains. After breakfast, transfer to Gondar Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa, enjoying the final views of the Ethiopian highlands. Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, spend the afternoon begin your city tour with visits to the National Museum, home of the famous fossil "Lucy," followed by the bustling Mercato Market, one of Africa's largest open-air markets. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to Entoto Park, where you can admire panoramic views of Addis Ababa and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
