Day 1 Dar Es Salaam to Mikumi National Park and Afternoon Game Drive Main Destination: Mikumi National Park

Your driver-guide picks you up in the morning from your hotel or the airport in Dar es Salaam. The road runs west through Morogoro, at the foot of the Uluguru Mountains, and on to Mikumi National Park, about 280 km from the city. After check-in you head out on your first game drive across the Mkata floodplain, the open grassland that gives Mikumi the nickname Little Serengeti. Look for elephants, giraffes, zebras and buffalo. Dinner and overnight at your camp.

Day 2 Sunrise Game Drive and Return to Dar Es Salaam Main Destination: Dar es Salaam

Wake early for a sunrise game drive, the best time to see lions, hyenas and other animals on the move, as the light turns gold over the Mkata floodplain. Return to camp for breakfast, then drive east through Morogoro back to Dar es Salaam. You arrive in the afternoon and are dropped at your hotel or the airport. We recommend booking onward flights for the evening or the next day.
