How to compare safari offers properly

A cheaper quote is not always cheaper. Here is what to line up side by side before you decide.

Two quotes for the same safari can look very different in price and still be fair. The difference is usually in what is included. Put the offers side by side and check the following.

Check what is included

  • Park fees and concession fees: included, or paid on top?
  • Accommodation: the actual lodges or camps, and the room type.
  • Vehicle: private or shared, and whether it has a pop-up roof for game viewing.
  • Guide and driver: language, and whether they are the same person all trip.
  • Meals, drinking water and drinks.
  • Airport transfers and any internal flights.
  • Activities that are optional extras, such as balloon rides or cultural visits.

Check the operator

  • Read the reviews and ratings on their SafariVendors profile, and look at how recent they are.
  • See how clearly and quickly they answer your questions. It shows how they will look after you in the field.
  • Check they are licensed in the country where they operate, and ask for the licence details if you are unsure.

Check the terms

  • Deposit size and the date the balance is due.
  • Cancellation and change rules.
  • What happens if the weather or a park closure changes the plan.
TipIf two offers are far apart in price, ask the cheaper operator what has been left out. A real bargain can explain itself in one message.
