3-Day Danakil Depression Tour Dallol & Erta Ale

Depart Addis Ababa on an early domestic flight to Semera, the capital of the Afar Region. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and 4WD driver before traveling toward the Danakil Depression. Continue through the Afar landscape to the Erta Ale area, famous for its volcanic terrain. After dinner at the designated camp, begin a guided nighttime trek toward Erta Ale volcano, subject to current volcanic activity and safety conditions. Observe the dramatic volcanic landscape before returning to camp.

After breakfast, leave the Erta Ale area and travel by 4WD toward the Dallol region. Explore the spectacular geological formations of Dallol, including colorful mineral deposits, sulfur springs, salt formations, and other remarkable landscapes where access is permitted. Visit the vast salt flats and learn about traditional salt extraction in the Afar region. Enjoy photography stops with your guide while following local safety instructions in this extremely hot and remote environment.

Rise early to experience the striking landscapes around the salt flats and, where conditions permit, observe traditional salt-caravan activities. After breakfast, travel by 4WD back toward Semera through the arid Afar landscape. Upon arrival, transfer to Semera Airport for your domestic flight to Addis Ababa. The tour concludes upon arrival in the capital, subject to flight schedules and road conditions.
