5-Day Southern Tanzania Safari Adventure

After meeting your safari guide in Dar es Salaam, you will receive a short briefing before beginning the journey to Mikumi National Park. The drive takes approximately 5–6 hours, with time to stop for breakfast or snacks if needed. Enjoy the changing scenery along the way and stop in Morogoro Town for lunch before continuing to Mikumi. On arrival, head into the park for an evening game drive. Mikumi’s open savannah makes wildlife viewing rewarding, and the park is also home to more than 400 recorded bird species.

After breakfast, depart with packed lunch for Udzungwa Mountains National Park, approximately two hours from Mikumi. On arrival, begin a guided hike toward Sanje Waterfalls, passing through lush forest and scenic mountain landscapes. Along the way, look out for birds, butterflies, and primates, including colobus monkeys. Your guide will share insights about the park’s wildlife, plants, and natural environment. After the hike, return to Mikumi Resort for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, depart from Mikumi with a packed lunch and drive to Nyerere National Park, formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve. On arrival, head out for a boat safari along the Rufiji River. This river safari offers a different perspective of the park, with chances to see hippos, crocodiles, water birds, and wildlife along the riverbanks. After the boat safari, continue to Selous River View Lodge for dinner and overnight

After breakfast, set out for a full-day game drive in Nyerere National Park. During the game drive, look out for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, zebras, lions, and many other animals, as well as more than 350 bird species recorded in the park. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch and time to relax. Later, visit a Maasai boma to experience traditional dances, learn about Maasai customs, and gain insight into their daily life and culture.

After breakfast, join an armed ranger for an early morning guided walking safari. This two-hour experience gives you a closer look at the bush, including animal tracks, smaller species, plants, and signs of wildlife activity. After the walk, return to prepare for the drive back to Dar es Salaam. On arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel, the airport, or the ferry terminal for onward travel to Zanzibar.
