Preparing for your safari

Documents, health, insurance and packing: what to sort out before you fly.

Your operator will give you trip-specific advice. These are the general things most travellers need to check early.

Paperwork

  • A passport valid for the period required by your destination, with blank pages.
  • Visa requirements for each country you will enter. Check them with the official source for your nationality.
  • Travel insurance that covers medical care and your planned activities.

Health

Speak to a doctor or travel clinic well before you travel about vaccinations and malaria prevention. Requirements depend on where you are going and where you are coming from.

Packing

  • Neutral clothing in layers, since mornings can be cold and days hot.
  • A hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.
  • Comfortable closed shoes.
  • Binoculars and a camera with spare memory and batteries.
  • Any medication you need, in its original packaging.
ImportantOfficial requirements change. Always confirm visa, health and entry rules with the relevant authorities before you travel.
